My Story -
where it all began...
When it came to making a career decision in high school, I knew from deep within that I wanted to work with people; and at that stage working with children and their families resonated with me. This has evolved over the next couple of decades where I now specialise in trauma, whether you’re in a big or small body. Our inner world of emotions and sensations intrigues me, and this is where and how I help people: to live in a more regulated way.
I started out as a geography high school teacher, whilst furthering my studies in psychology. After I completed my practical training, I knew the "teacher" within me also needed to be recognised, therefore I accepted a lecturing position at the university, and practised part time.
This has unfolded over the next decade of me ultimately becoming a professor in Educational Psychology, specialising in psychotherapy, whilst seeing clients on a part time basis. It has always been an honour to see young students grow into confident practitioners, and for them to connect with their inner strength and wisdom, in order to sit in the presence with someone else's pain (alias the words of Oriah Mountain Dreamer).
During my University years, I have been able to travel the world to speak at conferences, present research findings and build international networks. I chaired the Sexuality and Gender Division of the Psychological Society of South Africa; and served on the Board of Psychology of the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
We immigrated to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2016 and now I am in the privileged position to practice full-time. For me the deepest meaning comes from witnessing the courage of children, parents and individuals who face adversity and through intense therapeutic work, touch the core of their soul and allow healing to flow.
